Professional LED backlight LCD monitor – HP DreamColor LP2480zx

HP launched a professional LED back light LCD monitor with 131% Adobe RGB color (Over 1 billion colors in native mode).

To truly enjoy digital photography, invest in good cameras and lenses is not enough, you need a good monitor to display your nice photos.

The normal home use LCD monitors can only display 70% of the NTSC color. Some better / upper models can display up to 90% of the NTSC color; but 90% of the NTSC color is still far below the number of color that your camera can capture. So, most home users may never see the “true color” of their photo before.

This color chart shown the triangles of different color schemes, the bigger triangle means better. So, you can see, NTSC standard is just the minimum…. if your monitor dose not even able to display 100% NTSC color, you are actually missing a lot of color details. Meanwhile, Adobe RGB color standard is more comprehensive, if your monitor can display 100% Adobe RGB color, than would means you are seeing quite close to the “true color” that human eye can ever see.

HP claim that their new LED back light LCD monitor can display over 1 billion colors in native mode, that is 131% Adobe RGB color. The means HP’s new LED back light monitor could provide the best image quality among professional LCD monitors.

HP achieve the best color by employing array of RGB color LED as back light, instead the white LED that usually used by other LCD monitors (Apple’s new LED back light LCD monitor is using white back light).

For professional use

From the price tag US$3,499.00, you can know that this monitor is targeting professional market. One good news is, HP is offering a US$1,000 price cut at the moment, the monitor would cost US$2,499.00 till 31 Jan 2009.

Even if the best specification, professionals would still need to calibrate the monitor to get the most accurate color. HP offer their own monitor color calibration tool and software.

To calibrate the monitor, you just need to turn on the software, put the calibration tool at the right place, and them wait…..

This is LED backlight age

In the past few months, a lot of LED backlight LCD monitors have been released, e.g. Apple’s new LED backlight LCD monitor, Samsung SyncMaster XL20 LED Backlight Monitor, HP DreamColor LP2480zx and LED back light monitors of Apple’s MacBooks and on Sony notebook PCs.

High definition LCD TV market is also shifting to LED back light technology too, Samsung just released their new LED back light LCD TV A950 serise that provide incredible 200,000:1 contrast ratio.
